Junitavan Lagoon is a refreshing, natural body of fresh water amidst a region that is by and large waterless. The recent swamping of the area has sparked the implementation of a community project funded by the Jamaican National Foundation to restore the lagoon to its natural state. When completed this lagoon will rejuvenate a once thriving social hub, in addition to giving hikers and other guests a place to cool off and relax after a long day of traveling or bush-walking. As seen in the picture at the left, courtesy of Gustav, children of Accompong are enjoying a mere sample of the value this area will bring to the community when it is rehabilitated.
