Cockpit Republic is a business concept that was started by Robert Cawley in Accomong-Town Jamaica. Between 2006 and 2009, he worked with Peace Corps Volunteers Ryan Schleicher and Zebulon Turrentine on developing the eco-tourism product in that region. The original idea of Cockpit Republic was to create a catchy brand name for the Cockpit Country of Jamaica, the last remaining wilderness of the Island that is home to Jamaica’s Maroons.
The Cockpit Country of Jamaica is the Islands most biologically and culturally rich region yet also remains one of the Islands most impoverished regions. Being a small distraction from Jamaica’s coastline tourism industry and relatively undeveloped, Jamaica’s Cockpit Country does not reap the benefits of Jamaica’s visitors. To set the record straight, the Cockpit Country is of the best locations for experiencing the Island’s true culture and one of the last great wildernesses in the world.
If you have visited the Cockpit County before then please share your experience here on this website by signing up as a member of the site and share your experience and pictures with the rest of the world.
